CENTRO INTERNACIONAL DE CANCER

Location: San Salvador, El Salvador
Status: Concept (2011)
Size: 700m2

About the project: The state-of-the-art, non-intrusive cancer treatment programs offered in a Zen inspired space will make this center rival the top global facilities. The architecture allows nature to circulate throughout the waiting areas and atrium will allow patients and visitors to connect with nature during their treatments.

When we were asked to design the cancer center, we first looked at the lessons we learned from the design studies for the original version, primarily recognizing the healing effects of the presence of nature on the patients and patient relatives. With that in mind, we studied the terrain and the views of the new site and discovered new opportunities with vertical circulation and light; we were once again able to bring the Zen-like quality of the original design to this new version. The now called Centro Internacional de Cáncer is projected to break ground early 2011, bringing unprecedented cancer treatment benefits to the Central American region.
