PELICAN ISLAND

Location: Miami, Florida
Status: Concept

About the project: Florida Inside/Out called for entries to a competition in Miami called "Building on the Bay". A deserted attempt at a man-made island, left the bay with a repetitious set of piers that dotted the bay between the city and the barrier islands known as Miami Beach. The challenge was how to make use of the structures in current time without necessarily finishing the remaining island construction. Our idea was to develop a floating park, with a variety of sports fields, right on the water. Through its innovative interconnected walkways, visitors could experience Miami like never before. Our submission was chosen as one of three for publication and was published in the September/October issue of Florida Inside/Out out in 2006.
