The 6,650 square feet Palmetto Residence is nestled in the vibrant and exuberant South side of Coconut Grove. This residence is a testament to modern design inspired by the renowned Sarasota modern movement.
Our primary focus in conceptualizing the Residence was to seamlessly integrate the living spaces with the generous yard on the north side of the house. The house celebrates space, light, and a connection to nature. To achieve this, we've organized the structure around a central hall. This vertical space serves as a practical connector and a visual link between the second floor, housing most of the bedrooms and the public areas on the ground level.
As you approach the Palmetto Residence, you'll immediately notice the deliberate articulation of volumes. Using exposed concrete slabs, wood panels, and stucco and stone walls in a playful horizontal manner creates a distinctive and captivating image. This architectural composition adds a dynamic visual appeal and reflects the essence of the surrounding environment.
Upon entering the residence, you're greeted by an open and inviting floor plan. The living, dining, and family rooms have been strategically placed to take full advantage of the breathtaking views and natural light pouring in from the yard and the inviting swimming pool. These public areas seamlessly blend with the outdoor spaces, creating a harmonious connection between the interior and exterior.
The choice of materials—exposed concrete and wood panels blended with the aesthetic of an existing coral stone wall —was not only aesthetic but also functional. They serve to create a durable and sustainable structure that complements the tropical climate of Coconut Grove.
